Japanese Friendship Garden: explore the tranquil harmony of a Japanese tradition
Located on 11 acres of serene land in San Diego, the Japanese Friendship Garden is an expression of friendship between San Diego and its sister city Yokohama. The Garden infuses together these two cultures to create a unique Japanese Garden experience complete with stone arrangement, Koi pond, exhibition hall and ornamental tree collection. Visitors to the Garden can take a tour of the grounds and explore a private collection of Japanese artifacts from around the world.
The Japanese Friendship Garden is named "San-Kei-En" meaning "Three Scene Garden". The three scenes include water, pastoral and mountain. The design of the San-Kei-En is guided by the original principles of the Japanese Garden, while incorporating the local regional landscape and climate. Through the arrangement of stones, water, plants and trees a balanced composition can be achieved for use in meditation, enrichment and inner peace.
